He paid his dues

Actually, it was the Lions who paid Barry a handsome salary.

> More than likely he would have set the rushing record this year, walking away from that shows me the classy guy he always was, he cared more about winning than personal aggrandizement.

The way he pulled out this one gives me a lot of doubt whether he is a class guy or not. Actually I think in some perverse way it may help the team overachieve for a change. The guy is one of the greatest players ever BUT the guy was not a WINNER. Winners don't quit a day before training camp while not having said a word to any teamate, coach or management. Winners SHOW up at the training camps, Barry was NEVER there (it did not affect his performance BUT never improved the "teamwork" aspect each winning team must have) [NOte: Payton was ALWAYS at the training camp]. Winners SPEAK UP during tough times, the first time Barry opened his mouth during the season was in season 8 or 9. The guy NEVER led this team. Sad but true.

> I agree he has put the Lions in a tough spot, but perhaps he thought Lions would give him a chance to play for a contender.

Tough spot is an understatement, he could not have picked a WORST day to announce this! Too bad he may be remembered as the quitter instead of the greatest running back ever.

> Bobby Ross is an idiot!!!

I like Bobby. He made many mistakes last year. But nobody said rebuilding the Lions will be easy. Remember the Lions have one of the most inept front offices in the NFL. I think he did a brilliant move by getting rid of Mitchell and bringing in Charlie Batch who played in my colege a mile away from my house. The guy will one day take the Lions to the Superbowl!
