Interesting perspective. I believe you are right that JFK Jr.'s death affected the boomers much more than any other generation. The X-ers don't care about anything but lifestyle. Generation Y, while more astute than X-ers, aren't old enough to remember Bill Buckner's gift to New York. Good luck to you. :-)

Akula

At the ripe old age of 44 and having paid more money by force in taxes in order to support the liberal welfare state of this country than you can imagine having in one pile in front of you, I would not expect a 15 year old to have a real understanding of our county's political system because you don't pay taxes.

This is a Clinton woe that I refer to that is hot off the wire:

Clinton Fined $90,000 For Contempt In Jones Case

beta.siliconinvestor.com;

As far as the TV talking heads in the news media, you better believe they are fighting tooth and nail for ratings. I am talking liberal news casters spinning the truth into a lie as most liberals do. For this reason the 3 big networks have fallen behind cable in their ratings and viewership for the first time in our history. This means that at least some Americans are waking up and beginning to grow tired of the nonsense that has been pumped down their throats for the last 40 + years by this admitted 80% liberal media team.

The cold war is over because of Reagan but at 15 you would not have been alive as I was and I watched him campaign on the issue of a star wars defense system as well as a 30% across the board tax cut for all TAX PAYING Americans. You are still getting the benefits today from Reagan's policies. Clinton is taking credit for them.

I wish you well and I know that as you get older you will be less influenced by MTV and will begin to think for yourself. This is a normal part of growing up.

Go ask your mom or dad how much from their pay check that they bring home to the family out of each dollar that they earn. Tell them to take a calculator and plug in $1. Then ask them to subtract 28 cents federal tax.....7 1/2 cents social security tax (which BTW you will pay but never collect for yourself) then subtract your states income tax which is likely about 2%. Now don't forget the 7% sales tax on everything you buy and what about the property taxes on the house you live in and the car they drive, the garbage taxes on your utility bills as well as Al Gore's $2 per month phone bill and gasoline tax, utility taxes. The list goes on.....

When you get your first job and your first paycheck......be sure and tip your hat to the good liberals for allowing you to keep about 35 cents of each dollar that YOU earned. Every time you ride by the local public housing project why don't you get out and knock a few doors and ask the people why they don't work. Why they are the 3rd or forth generation of welfare recipients that seem content sucking off the hard working tax payer while the perpetuate their life styles and pass their bad morals on to their fatherless children.

JFK the assassinated president that I saw get elected was a conservative.......he is known for stimulating the economy in the 1960's by cutting working Americans taxes.

You will see my friend.

Take care,

Vendit

Akula:

I am in my mid 70s so I will respond to your 15 yr. old point of view from my perspective.
Looking back, I would have to agree that we tend to remember the major events of our lives, the times we grew up in, the memories of past associations (even a cha-cha-cha with an exciting young lady will do) and over all this lies the mantle of nostalgia.
It is a photograph album in mind that remembers good and bad things almost equally but without the original ecstasy or agony. The main thing is not to be carried away with current events which to me are constantly recycling but only the names have changed. The media is out to make its living and sells and oversells for profit.
When one is young, you can see clearly and maybe more so than ever in your life. Adulthood brings burdens and self interests. You, perhaps, will remember and grieve over a favorite school teacher someday when you hear they have passed on, and you never took the time to say hello or goodbye. Some notable individuals of our personal past will always have a special place in our memories.
Nostalgia implies looking backwards, but you are correctly looking forward now.
History is a great collection of facts worth studying.

There is one philosophy that is not irrelevant: try
lp.org.
The Libertarian Party is the party of freedom and principle. We need people of your age and intelligence in order to bring freedom back to this country. This is not a "good time" in this country at all: people are losing individual rights rapidly. Look it up and see what you think.
You obviously do think, not like many many students I have met.
