OTOT >>Don't you have to reload a gun with bullets every so often? I thought only automatic weapons can kill this many people... machine guns and the like. He killed 9 and injured 12 it says, he had to miss a few, can a regular gun do that? Michelle, I don't really understand what you mean by "regular" gun, I guess. I assume this guy was using garden variety handguns (automatics, as opposed to revolvers) which held 10-15 bullets each and also had some extra magazines of bullets ready to go. I have never been in a daytrading office, but I assume they are set up with everyone crammed in together, i.e. no cubicles or anything, so there was probably nowhere for anyone to duck or hide. I just got my power turned on again after having some electrical work done all day and saw this story. Kind of takes the fun out of checking on my shorts. One of the news stories I read suggests this guy stopped daytrading in April, and also that he killed his family members several days ago, but all the reports imply that todays market action drove him to this. Once the media settles on an interpretation it is awfully hard to reset the story even after the facts come out, especially when the incorrect interpretation follows dramatic convention more closely than the truth does. I never know how to evaluate stuff like this vis a vis the market. Given the action in currencies and bonds, I don't think it matters--after the requisite bounces (perhaps to 1360 or so on the S&P?) we're correcting more. OTOH, I raised some cash after I concluded that that guy who was trying to sell his kidney might have been serious, and I would imagine this will get anyone who hasn't gotten off margin already to do so.
