- AOL is doomed to the commodity trash heap. For the past week I've been using NetZero & paying nothing for my ISP

- ISP is a differentiated commodity. AOL's long term survival better not be based on monthly subscribers. If so, they're doomed.

- by "differentiated commodity" I mean it's basically the same thing.

- for instance, AOL, Mindspring, AT&T, MSN, etc... are all ISP's which offer basically the same thing. AOL does have extras - but it's still basically ISP - all I'm saying is that the price of ISP connection, like all tech services in a maturing market, is eventually going to drop. As it does, AOL will start losing members. When that happens, they're finished. IMHO.
