Q:There was a flurry of rumors that AMD's early manufacturing performance has been quite good on the K7," said Drew Peck of SG Cowen & Co.

A:Dresden fab is reported as going into 0.18-micron process "very soon" and will be responsible for K7 production. Tell the Germans in AMD's MegaFLOP 30 that you want 1 mil chips by November and short of a disaster, you will have them no matter what .I think the Germans will just laugh - as they walk out the door for their 6 week annual vacation at the beginning of August.. Of course when they come back, they may decide to STRIKE for a 25 hour work week.

Jim,

Aren't the Germans about to go on a month vacation too?
Who's left to tend the store?

Good point. The Japanese are just the opposite, as news came out this week that NEC, Hitachi, Fujitsu, et al, would give up their usually sacred "Golden Week" vacations, and work instead. This is because the chip market is that hot right now. Re Germany, good luck with the unions. At 4:45 you can hear the tools and the pencils all drop and hit table tops at the same time.
