I've had similar conversations with co-workers and others who certainly wouldn't blink an eye at $40 a month, yet are reluctant to sign up for @Home's service. I believe this has more to do with a relative "value" determination than anything else. Everyone "knows" that the net is no faster than the slowest link so what is the value in a theoretical high speed connection left unrealized. There needs to be a compelling popular application out there which creates a "must have" mentality. How about video chat rooms or video SI. Have dial up ISP costs come down? My former dial up cost about $24 a month, add the second phone line ($15 per month) and the difference between that and @Home's cost is trivial. This was no accident.
