I have nothing against benchmark games. After all this is how we compare performance. You can even use targeted optimizations, like SSE register allocation, when compiling the benchmarks for PIII. But you have to use a compiler, which has non-zero market influence, and you also have to provide similar quality optimizations, like 3dnow when compiling for Athlon. Otherwise you are comparing the performance of compiler optimizations and not the performance of platforms.
