For one, as broadband applications become more widespread, you won't be "on the computer" the computer will just be on. You will be setting up the movie for the night, reading the messages from family and friends, paying your bills and checking your credit card balances while the bot checks for the best fare for that vacation trip, all while your kids play a multiplayer game.
Businesses are pushing people onto the web, by making it harder to get things done over the phone or in person and easier and cheaper on the web. Right now the power users do all of the above, but the ordinary user is seriously stymied by the lack of speed and problems with using a tool that is much more complicated than it should be. Every time I think that computers and the web have gotten so easy that anyone can use them I'm confronted with having to explain how to turn one on to a novice (the fear in the adult non-computer user is tremendous).
