E. Davies, I don't agree that network problem is the real culprit of Fremont's low penetration rate. I have been a subscriber since March and I only experienced 2 short outages, each lasted only about 2 hours. 99% of the time the network is very fast. I didn't experience the November fiasco last year. But most of the non-subscribers don't even know there was such incident. I have 2 other friends living in Fremont and already subscribers like me. From their experience the network has been very stable since the start of this year. Lately I witnessed a obvious speed increase. So the word around here is very positive for @Home. Everybody I talked to, including friends, colleagues, relatives, strangers in Circuit City, everybody likes the @Home speed.
The only way to turn them off is to mention the price. Probably the high mortgage payment around here is the real culprit, it makes people hard to squeeze out another $20. Most of people use home accounts for occasional reasons. They are a power user in office, not at home. You know, couple here all go to work to make up for the high cost of living. They get tired coming home and have no appetite surfing web.
