NAPERVILLE, Ill., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Spyglass Inc. (NASDAQ:SPYG)
announced today that it has completed the rollout of a mobile handheld
application to help improve productivity among Stanford University's housing
maintenance workers. The application combines work-order processing,
dispatching and back-end server updating for labor and materials utilized by
the Housing and Dining Services maintenance staff. Stanford will use
Spyglass' mobile system to help create a paper-free, time-efficient work
system.

Spyglass' solution is an application that electronically retrieves and
updates work orders that are then delivered to a handheld computing device.
At the beginning of their shift, housing maintenance service personnel pick up
their docked mobile device containing their specific work orders for the day.
After they perform their work, they dock the unit. Docking the unit triggers
updates to the back-end systems with the completed work orders, including
labor and materials required. New work orders for the next shift are then
downloaded to the device.
"In Stanford student housing, we wanted to have a work order tracking and
service delivery system for repairs that was state-of-the-art," said Rodger
Whitney, Stanford's director of student housing services.
"We utilized Spyglass' services because of their proven expertise in
providing mobile data solutions for handheld computers. Their implementation
of this handheld application will allow our maintenance workers to more
efficiently perform their duties," added Barry Reuter, housing's information
systems project manager overseeing the development of the new technology.
Spyglass' mobile solution eliminates unneeded steps, such as filing
paperwork, and makes planning easier. The application was specifically
designed to match the business practices and natural work flows of the Housing
and Dining Services staff. Ultimately this systematic approach improves
productivity, both by making decision-making and planning easier and by
cutting down on the unnecessary steps associated with receiving and filling
orders.
"We are moving into an era when widespread use of mobile devices on the
job will create more efficient work environments," said Ray Rischpater,
Spyglass director of software engineering. "For instance, for student housing
at Stanford, we created a mobile application that will allow staff to
electronically receive and update mission-critical data posted on a back-end
server. With solutions such as these, the unnecessary overload of paperwork
will soon be a thing of the past -- and that is just the beginning of how
mobile data solutions will continue to change the way jobs are performed on a
day-to-day basis."
