Hi Peter,

I decided to show your comments to someone living in SAf. He has a balanced response.

Hi Russett

In a way he's right, of course. The crime in SAf is quite unacceptable and in many departments is the highest in the world --- murder, rape, hijacking etc. To that extent SAf is a war zone. For example, more people die violently in SAf than in Northern Ireland.

On the other hand, I don't believe that the murder of policemen, largely in the cities, will impact on diamond mining. Especially in a small operation like Marsfontein.

Also, the days when DB (presumably De Beers) can expropriate someone's mine are over. Today De Beers takes its chances like anyone else.
