They should keep both formats. Classic SI and the New SI.

I think this would be a neat, unique thing - Nowhere else on the Net.

There are a lot of loyal SI users that like the Classic Site, we were here when Jill the Webmistress, and Jeff and Brad worked all kinds of hours maintaining and enforcing rules. We had a lot of fun when it was a private company. Lets keep some of that feeling by keeping the original site as well.

When the new site if forced upon us, I think SI is going to be surprised at the number of complaints. A lot of members who don't use the beta site are going to be shocked.

Keep the Classic Site too. Man, it can't be that much more work to keep two sites running.

Brad, Jeff, you have a unique opportunity here, call the original site that made SI the success it is today, the Classic SI and let the people who want to use it, still use it.

Please think of this very serious before making your finial decision.

I was thrown without warning into the Betabeast version the other night and it was a nightmarish occurrence. Most people are going to have objections when something that has worked well for them for several years is suddenly gone, but when the new improved model is screamingly slow and confusing, it is even worse! If that was supposed to be a convincing intro to the new SI, it failed miserably.

I loved the classic SI. If there are some wonderful, new, can't- live-without changes, why can't they be incorporated into the old format without throwing out baby, bathwater, soap, towels, and shampoo? Failing that, give us a choice. But DON"T DO that to me again! It was traumatic.

Yes, please don't take our old SI away. I'm horrified at the thought, actually.

I vote for the original. The new site is a bandwidth hog.

IMHO, SI should just spend a few bucks on a squid exterminator.

From a disappointed member...

It is a good thing these guys didn't have 200 million dollars to spend "fixing" the classic SI, otherwise we would have the cyberspace equilivant of WATER WORLD.

If I sound bitter...it is because I am. I used to spend 70% of my cybertime on Silicon Investor.

When is the cut-off date?...so I can look for greener, simpler
pastures........nysebob2...A Luddite Lost In Cyber Space.....

Yes. Keep. The look and pure design clarity of the Original is an Achievement. It's much, much easier to use, on the eyes. Add the features to it. The Yahoo look is brutal by visual comparison. Not relaxed, not personal, not simple or pretty. We want the calm, the spaciousness, the proportion. The beauty.

Yah; the beauty.

The Dyer's worked a distinctive Masterpiece. Really. See how many people like it?

That is SO rare.

You know how when you were twelve, you remember how it was your job to take the trash can out? Lug it out to the street?

And you lifted up the lid, just to stuff the end of a stick and somebody's cigarette pack in there, and oh god! ~ There were your sneakers! Your good sneakers! The worn in ones! The fast ones! YOURS!

You yanked them out of there, ASAP, and stomped toward the house to have a talking-to with that mom of yours.

"WHAT are YOU doing THROWING OUT my SNEAKERS!"

"They're old and dirty filthy things. I got you some new ones."

Oh, right!! Geek-a-more newbies. Ones you'll have to wear in the back yard for weeks before you can even venture out on the street again.

"There is supposed to be a transition period, where I can wear the old ones til the new ones are broke in! If I even consider them."

Sometimes they don't get, just how really mad you are.

Seriously.

Well.

Well.

Fourteen years later, when you bring "her" home to meet "Mom," and you all are sitting on the couch, and Mom has decided to be nice and like this girl, and she says, "You know, I've kind of missed Paul since he moved out. He's a nice boy."

Then you can say, "I moved out because YOU threw away my tennis shoes."

That will fix her wagon. And give the prospective missus an idea about what the rules are, what's advisable and what isn't, all at the same time.
