I've maintained for quite some time that the choices CNBC make in the way they present the news are inappropriate at times. I find trying to make a living from the market tough enough without the added stimulation of a business news channel attempting to be exciting. I've posted before, and I do again today, that if one wasn't aware of the normal fluctuations in the market, they'd think a ten point move in the DOW would be either a global financial meltdown or a speculative bubble approaching the tulip mania in Europe a few centuries ago if they were to hear the urgency of voice and superlatives of vocabulary as these people try to dress-up a slow news day.

I'm not nuts enough to claim that CNBC's presentation style pushed this trader over the edge: I'm sure something else did. BUT, I'm sure this guy was driven to that edge by a number of things accumulating over time. In my opinion, our society is tough enough on people without the added, and needless, hype of a business news channel emulating MTV.

As far as the media response to this tragedy, I'm becoming increasingly annoyed at those who exploit human frailty and pontificate endlessly on solutions to society's ills, all the while denying their own small part in the deterioration. Whenever a sad event like this takes place, one can safely tune-out -- the response is always the same: Gun control, Knife control, Clean needles, School prayer, More tax, Additional regulations, Another layer of bureaucracy, and a Presidential photo-op. (Pick 3) This is followed by 'official' responses as those who have enjoyed positions of responsibility see the necessity of covering their asses.

As a viewer, if I don't complain, I'm part of the problem and share some blame too. I'm not happy about this.

Thanks, PW.
