Effective Monday, August 2, 1999, Market Makers are required to immediately move to an inferior quotation upon failure to execute the full size of an incoming order.

On June 22, 1999, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved changes to National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD®) Rule 4613(b) requiring Market Makers to execute the full size of an incoming preferenced SelectNetSM order or disseminate an inferior quote upon partial execution of the order (the "trade or move" proposal). The rule change also modifies IM-4613 prohibiting the use of automatic quotation update systems that violate Rule 4613(b), as amended.

For more detailed information on this rule change, please click on the following link to NASD Notice to Members 99-61. The approval order from the SEC for this rule change can be found by clicking on the following link to Head Trader Alert #1999-36.

If you have further questions, please contact Nasdaq MarketWatch at (800) 211-4953.
