scott, you might want to check if the 'zero sum game' refers to futures contracts. Now that is a zero sum game - there is someone losing and someone gaining. In straight stocks there is no one on 'the other side'. (there doesn't have to be a short seller losing[gaining] as you gain[lose]) And I always like to think of all those hard working people helping to make me money. The company sells things. They make a profit. They (maybe) give the stockholders dividends. I know some stocks are a bit 'disconnected' from this, but eventually sales, earnings, etc. will catch up. Crispin
