AOL's Steve Case, others sold shares to diversify
WASHINGTON, July 30 (Reuters) - America Online Inc. (NYSE: AOL) executives led by Steve Case sold some of their shares in the top-rated Internet services company to diversify their portfolios, AOL said on Friday.

Case, the chief executive, sold 1.5 million shares valued at about $161 million. The sale represented 9 percent of his total holdings, the Dulles, Va.-based company said.

AOL currently has more than 1 billion common shares outstanding.

Other insiders who sold were Vice Chairman Kenneth Novack (200,000 shares); President and Chief Operating Officer Robert Pittman (1.02 million); senior vice presidents Miles Gilburne (750,000) and Michael Kelly (120,000); and directors James Barksdale (300,000) and Frank Caufield (100,000).

"Our executives routinely sell shares ... as part of their long-term, personal financial planning," AOL spokesman Jim Whitney said. "Those are pretty small pieces of their overall holdings."

All of the executives made filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission proposing to sell the stock, and the actual sales were all confirmed by the company.

Bertelsmann AG , the German media giant, filed to sell 1.5 million shares of AOL, but it was not immediately known if the sale has gone through.

AOL shares were trading down $2.125 at $96.625 in afternoon activity on the New York Stock Exchange.

If i had listened to Bearons for the last four years, I'd have made nothing in the market.
Abelson and his kangaroo court buddies missed the entire net thing. They are pissed and obnoxiously baste any stock they didn't get.
They were incorrectly "cautious" about this market 4000 points ago.
Gather the friends and family around, let em know you're going to roast a stock, hmmmm....
There is a wealth of info in the rag done by objective writers.
As with any organization you have sleazeballs.
Case in point. How did the rumor get started?
We'll see.
