The math is right. It seems contradictory that we speak of low subscriber penetration rates when many have been waiting months/years for TCI to upgrade their systems. Providing the Fremont numbers are correct I have to refer back to my previous assertion that it's a determination of relative value and not cost. Other than that I believe it may just be inertia - once routines are established there must be a compelling reason to change.

This will become important for @Home when they have market share and other distribution systems become widely available.

<<<Most people with dial up ISP do have a second line. My point is the cost is moot. You dump yours ISP, minus $19.95. Dump the second phone line, $15.95. Difference between that and $04 is $4.10. So the true cost to upgrade to @home is $4.10. So why don't more people sign up?>>>

But you still have to pay the additional $9.95 for AOL. If a deal could be cut with AOL soon, broadband AOL thru ATHM for $40. would be panacea. Hell, We pay the extra $9.95 on top of our ISP because there is no local AOL # in The Sticks. Can't live without the chat. Never underestimate the power of community

Also in my area the local bells charge for
each local call and whenever I log into the
net ( about 150 x monthly ) can be added into
the equation. They are haveing a promotion in
my area for half the installation fee ($49 instead
of $50,with the first month free) I am going to subscribe
next week. The price comparison is negligible.
