I suspect that Jing is more in touch with reality on this issue than most of the people on this thread.

People who post to SI are serious investors. People willing to pay for the right to post. Not your average person.

The vast majority of people in this country live a life only a little better than paycheck to paycheck. They clip coupons to save 25 cents on toilet paper. They save money so someday they can buy themselves a better car or take their once a year vacation. Rather than pay for someone to do fix a broken appliance they try to do it for themselves. Bottom line- they are willing to spend time to save money, exactly the opposite of the @home model (spend money to save time).

Most everyone I know spends money freely on things they care about and are extremely tight on money for everything else. Broadband will only be able to get a premium price when broadband internet becomes a way of life, an accepted part of what everyone does. Then they will gladly pay, just like they are willing to pay for cable TV.
