Because it sounds better for a fund manager to say "we held AMZN at 125 at the beginning of the month and 100 1/16 at the end of the month" than "we held AMZN at 125 at the beginning of the month and 97 1/2 at the end of the month". They also recognise that the technical and psychological support is at the 100 level. It is called manipulation and will only succeed in holding up the price of the stock for so long (just long enough to exit their own positions I suspect).

If you were watching the tape, you would have seen AMZN's price below 100 all afternoon and then go to 100 1/16 in literally the last few minutes (and on fairly low volume).
