David -- cause we don't save anything, and much of what we buy we import. More cash to spend means a bigger exposure to foreigners investment preferences -- and higher rates to keep them interested. The dollar is undermined by the trade deficit and the weakness in the dollar drives investment out of the US. A dropping dollar is amplified by the capital outflows -- and dollar weakness generates higher import prices which we experience as inflation. Productivity growth, not more consumer spending, is what we must have in ever bigger forward leaps to keep our market afloat. Wage gains are set to outstrip productivity improvements -- its over -- the run in the US stock market is over and a tax cut will only speed up the process.
