That SI survey is really an enigma. I have followed and tried to comprehend it for the last couple of years. It is not a consistent indicator in a straightforward, or in a contrary manner. A peak in bullishness doesn't always precede a market peak, and a trough does not always precede a market bottom.

A couple of observations about the chart though, may make some sense:

1) If you draw trendlines through the tops and bottoms, you'll notice that the sentiment is actually in a falling (bearish) trend.

2) A break of the upper trendline to the up side this spring preceded a break of the Tech stock avg. to the upside.

3) Since the chart only goes to 1.0 (neutral), you can't see it- but there is currently a break in the lower trendline to the down side.

Now, I wonder why the chart only goes down to 1.0? <g>
