the us mail will be just fine. what has happened and will happen is this: the local post office has been designated as THE point where all of us citizens MUST register come post y2k chaos. the virginia database was one of the very first the government hardened sites, if you please. large amounts of money have been quietly thrown at the post office, and then turned over to FEMA for all practical purposes. the information stored according to your current address in virginia, down to your house and carrier number is all a part of the existing big brother database upon you, jeff. others have posted before, from the government's own websites and offically issued printed matter, the FEMA executive orders and the presidential decision directives covering the operation and utilization of the us postal service post y2k, so i will not duplicate that here. mail will once again be nationalized (not quasi monoply as it is now) for all practical purposes. mail will be gathered, prioritized, censored and delivered by the men and women of our armed forces because of the 'emergency powers' granted to FEMA. governmental franked mail will be given the highest priority both to disseminate as well as receive. that is logical as well as spelled out in prior eo's and pdd's mentioned earlier on si. that is why we will have tax collections attempts next year. it will be a flat tax system switchover faster than you can blink from what i am able to logically deduce. furthermore, it is important to remember that the laws on the books used to prosecute tax evasion currently will not be changed until after the breakdown occurs, if they will be changed even then! enforcement of the current law imprisons those who do not voluntarily file accurate INCOME reports now, and get caught. no one is currently imprisionable for missing a deduction or taking too many deductions, unless they can prove fraud. for example, i and my wife have already decided and are planning to file our 1999 tax return prior to 12/31/99 based on our Quicken kept books, (which we will be busy transcribing to old fashioned ledgers during the month of december.) when washington, and the other governmental agencies to whom we must be accountable at that time, start looking for money and comparing non-filers to that virginia database in particular, AND to our two 'personal appearance at the post office for registration' cards, they will find that we have a certified copy of our joint ALREADY MAILED-IN tax returns issued by their own local governmental agency, THEIR post office, in our possession. since the registration process is #3 of FEMA's First Three Steps in ALL Emergency Declarations, it is imperative that even polly's take the minimal steps to get their personal picture id together and have at the ready, in certified originals which will be required to even get water at the lake or 'manual pump handled cisterns' as kholt describes. just hope that the manual water cistern line isn't alphabetical if you happen to find yourself in the last 1/8 of the western alphabet. :)
