Grant, this so called free ISP IS NOT from AltaVista but from
some small timer free ISP, it is much smaller than NetZero's.

This ISP partners with AltaVista and tries to get more eyeballs for
their adv. banners.

Nothing new at all, they don't have any local number available in and
around my neighborhood and I live in an area surrounded by
100,000 - 200,000 population(townships), CABLE, DSL, DIAL-UP are
all available but not any free ISP... not NetZero, not
this ISP from AltaVista, it is a long way to go ...

Grant

I'll check it out this weekend. I put the Alta Vista short cut you provided in a folder right next to the other two free ISP's Netzero and FreeWeb that have been around for a couple of years now stealing AOL's customers right and left.

The competition with these free ISP's has been so fierce that last quarter AOL could only manage 775,000 new subscribers and only 1.2 million new subscribers the quarter before that.

Thanks

Vendit

downloaded it which was very quick and easy since I used my 45/mo 750kbps dsl connection. only took about 1 minute.
then had to shut off the fast service to use the slower free service. tried to connect 3 times and took about 2 minutes to download the start page. then when I clicked on si in my bookmark I clicked of the ad so I can use the other half of my monitor. At that point it disconnects me....this happened 3 times so I guess it is by design.
So I guess this is what you get for nothing.
Slow service that allows you to use 1/2 of your monitor.
I think I'll continue to pay for fast access through dsl/aol.
I'm sure this free crap appeals to many people as does a ford fiesta, but you don't see that many fiestas on the road.
This is not worrisome at all to this long AOL shareholder
