I don't accept the fact that Mr. Barton's acts can be traced to a treatable mental illness or that medication or lack thereof contributed to his actions.

I believe Mr. Barton was a sociopath and to my knowledge there is no effective medical treatment for that short of a lobotomy. Evidence is coming to light that Mr. Barton willingly committed the calculated and brutal murders of his ex-wife and his mother in law, in order to collect on a sizeable insurance policy and in order to be with the 21 year old woman with whom he was having an affair. Other evidence is coming to light that this young woman, later to become his second wife, Leigh Ann Barton, had also taken out a sizeable insurance policy on her first husband at the same time that Mr. Barton took out the policy on his wife. The man is quoted as saying that he feared for his life from the day he first heard of the murder of the first Mrs. Barton, until after he divorced his wife and the policy was cancelled. According to Alabama authorities, they were planning on subpeonaing Leigh Ann as a material witness in the original murder investigation, indicating that they believed she knew about the murders from the time they were committed, perhaps before. Her impending divorce from Mark Barton also indicates that she was having second thoughts and may have been ameniable to testifying against him in return for considerations from the court.

All of this, combined with his losses in the stock market through his own incompetence may have been too much for Mr. Barton, who exhibited the classic symptoms of a sociopath by placing the blame for his problems on everyone else, while insisting that he himself was righteous and blameless. His insistence on making others suffer including the taking of his children's lives is also consistent with the characteristics of a sociopath, who believes the world revolves around him and doesn't deserve to continue to exist in his absence.

My final clinical diagnosis of Mr. Barton is that he was a lame, ratshit bastard that should have been euthanized at birth, to save the rest of society the trouble, loss, and pain he has cost us.
