I thought we had concluded that Geoff was poorly informed when he made his unfortunate comment [about Qualcomm not being a gorilla], and had decided to forgive him.

I don't remember being so kind as to forgive him. :)

Seriously, you're right about that. However, I think it is important to remember that he is not alone in thinking that CDMA is controlled enough by standards committees to render the company a non-gorilla. Contrast that with Microsoft, for whom there seems to be universal, unqualified acknowledgement of gorilla status.

Actually, I kind of like the idea that there are people, one of whom is prominent, that in my opinion are wrong about Qualcomm's role among the primates. It presents yet another inefficiency in the market that inures to my benefit.
