Rambi -- Thank you for the gracious response. Like your husband, I am not a joiner but learned much from living with others in a "house". We may not have been typical

We had plenty of jocks (from all over the country), not a few geeks, grad students, couple of offspring of very famous people, several Army vets and one guy who did four years in the USMC as an officer. There was one Peruvian, one Swede, one Mexican and a Hungarian refugee that the house literally 'adopted' after the '56 uprising -- even a couple of Ag students (can't get those sheep stories out of my head). Some members were filthy rich but many would not have been in school without scholarships or 'part time' employment.

I must admit, my brother tolerated only a few weeks of frat life. Then again, he attended a well known, very Southern university. I think he referred to it as a "degrading" experience.

We were the oldest, best and wildest house on the 'row' and no doubt did many foolish things and had the most barbaric rites of passage (none dangerous and none involving alcohol -- not to say this was a 'dry' house -- no, no, no).

However, when it came to group think and peer pressure, it was mostly in the way of looking out for one another, demanding quiet hours and study programs, positive social lessons and insisting on being the best at everything on campus.

Shoot, after that speech, I should get out the checkbook and send a few bucks :-)

BTW, I'm sure the 'night out' with Nuni was every bit the hoot you described. Hope you have many more (buckle up!).
