The Front Office Gorilla Game
History Year Month Week Annualized History
Gorilla Game 62.31% 47.70% -16.37% -10.83% 50.56%
S&P 500 19.65% 8.08% -3.20% -2.08% 16.37%
Russell 2000 -3.94% 5.40% -2.82% -0.81% -3.34%

There are some pretty startling numbers in that table. Though we're
still stomping the indexes, our game continues to be extremely
volatile. Take a look at the powerfully negative numbers in the
monthly and weekly column that show we're losing significantly to the
indexes in the extremely recent past. Though it's terrific that
we're up 62% since we started the game and are tripling the S&P 500,
that table doesn't show that at the beginning of July we were up 95%.

Now the details about the individual stocks:

5/25/98 5/1/99 Average Current Change
Shares Stock % of Port Price Price Cost Price since 5/98

62 Clarify 12.6% $13.25 N/A $13.25 $32.94 148.58%
225 Remedy 28.6% $17.44 $17.50 $17.46 $20.63 18.26%
147 Siebel 53.5% $23.00 $38.44 $27.10 $59.13 157.07%
90 Vantive 5.2% $27.63 N/A $27.63 $9.34 -66.18%

The final tally:

Stocks $16,215.06
Cash $15.61
Total $16,230.67

And the reminders:

The portfolio began on 5/25/98 with $10,000. This is NOT a real-
money portfolio. Commissions are based on $8 per trade. Because the
interest earned on the cash portion of the portfolio would not
meaningfully affect the results of the portfolio, interest is not
accounted for.

Disclosure: I own shares of Siebel Systems and have held long and
short positions in front office stocks shown above as well as
others. I'll continue to consider positions in those and other front
office stocks.
