I was born in Corpus Christi. I have a vague SmellMemory (I like that) of Padre Island. I was older when I was in Midland, and the scents are very clear. I took a short trip to Charleston awhile back. It was the first time I'd been to the ocean in years and as much as seeing it, I wanted to smell it. It didn't disappoint. The salt and scents of the water were thick in the air. I think the gentleman I was with thought me quite odd as I opened my nostrils wide and soaked it in, grinning.

This is a bit from a story set in West Texas:
It was hot, hot like West Texas gets, right down into your bones. I looked at the brown land that stretched on flat forever. It looked like home, and the hot, dusty, oily air that burned my nostrils, smelled like home.
