I agree fully. I believe that @home technology has to figure out some way to get away from the modem. Then they to could send everyone a CD with a free trail for 30 days, and eliminate the need to install everything.

The steps are taking place slowly, first was the e/card. Now most computers come ready for cable or you might be charged 40 to 60 dollars. With that said the hub of the wheel seems to be Cable, until something else comes along, but not in my life time I'm afraid. There is just to much money into it now that the Cable group will prevail.

Ah,

How do you see the position of the individual cable companies when it comes expiration time? Do you see that they will be convinced to play elsewhere or adjust the split and squeeze @Home? or leave? I'm not asking that out of fear that it will happen. I want to begin to get a handle on the dynamic that will play out in 2002.

I believe that @Home will be playing a dangerous game in the next couple of years. @Home must leave the cable nest at some time in order to be able to become truly connection agnostic. right now every move @Home makes is bound to draw fire from a consortium member.

Does equity in @Home outweigh revenue split and switching cost come contract time? How does @Home leave the nest when the parents have the ability to disown every couple of years?

I'm trying to convince myself that @Home has or will have a sound independent foundation for growth. If this company is going to idle every time AOL, MSFT or my grandmother announces that they are in talks to buy or partner with a cable company then that is a serious disadvantage.
