My point was that there is a good opportunity here to build another great networking/telecom company. I guess every opportunity can be viewed with the glass half-full or empty. I was a doubter once as many tech companies fail and if you only look at the risk side, you will be right more than wrong but you will never hit any home runs. Shorting JNPR, your long-term upside is probably 90% if you are right as it would probably get acquired before it went bankrupt and that return will take a while. By being long, my upside is a long-term eight or ten-bagger or more and my downside is probably 60-70% as I will sell if they they have trouble and I think I can sell before I lose 90%.

I didn't own CIEN but I would have been happy to own CIEN (and taken some COMS and BAY with it) if I got an equal amount of YHOO and AMZN at the same time and just held all of them over the last 3 years.
