I disagree completely with the idea that we have to come together to make meaningful change. The ability for each SI member to configure SI more to their liking would be a great thing, and it isn't too hard to maintain. A little harder, yes, but not that much. And compared to the benefits, it's a nit. I agree its a nit if it goes just one level deep. However things rarely are, well they might in rev one but down the line, I don't believe so. For example back to this box issue. I have the "no box" option. However, when I click "view replies to this message", the replies show up in a box. The reason they do this is because their code is probably modular, procedural oriented and in order for them to carry the customizable box down to every layer, they would have to add a new parameter to the procedure. Thats a major mod to every procedure that displays messages for everybody - do they have the box turned on or not. Now add about 5 more customizable options that need to carry through and its just messy. If they planned for all the customizations then they could set up some structure or something that passes through all the calls but I doubt they did that from day one. This is all speculation but I knew when I saw those boxes around my replies they were falling into that trap. Now this isn't rocket science or anything, but it is man hours and you have to ask yourself, what do I want more, added functionality or customizable formatting. Just trying to offer a pov here.
