Dan4-1 - Re: "Now intel appears to be making a similar move - denying AMD access to the socket 8 / slot 1 / slot 2 architecture and specifying a new memory bus. "

First, AMD is a RAMBUS LICENSEE - Intel is not denying ANYBODY access to RAMBUS technology since it is RAMBUS that owns the technology - not Intel.

Intel has invested in RAMBUS - just as it has invested in hundreds of entrepreneurial start-ups with technology that Intel perceives as promising - or beneficial to Intel.

That's simply SMART BUSINESS - in case you hadn't noticed.

As for Intel DENYING AMD access to "socket 8 / slot 1 / slot 2 architecture ", AMD openly agreed NOT to use these architectures - OPENLY.

Intel pioneers a lot of development and their intention was CLEARLY NOT TO MAKE IT SIMPLE FOR AMD TO COPY Intel's technology and capitalize on Intel's technology development and investment.

Again, this is SMART BUSINESS.

You - like many of the AMDolts on this board - think that CPU manufacturing should be a non-profit, altruistic endeavor.

Too bad for you.

Intel is in business to make money - and increase shareholder value.

Obviously, AMD appeals more to your cheap senses.

Paul

Danny the Dumb - Re: "[Rambus] not so thinly veiled as an independent company"

Hey Dog Breath, don't you know that Rambus had an IPO a while back? See RMBS.
