Benny,

Ther look to be problems with the mixed delivery mode.

1) Banks will cherry pick the "on us" payments (such as Bank One to Wingspan). They can then spread the other payments out through various channels, TP/INTF, Integrion, Exchange, CKFR and CKFR may provide on leg of all of these transactions but not know this is a Bank One customer.

2) The bank can collect the float on transactions and delay payments and clearing to collect overdraft fees, etc. which banks that I know are only too happy to sock to customers.

3) The bank can then blame electronic bill-pay and imply CKFR for the screw-up and the customer is never quite clear what channel the payment followed.

IMO the mixed delivery channel/mode is a problem, esp. if the banks keep a close hold on proprietary information on customer relationship. Without this information, it is very difficult to sort out transactions.

Dave

About a month ago, I posted about my unpleasant experience with WingspanBank.
Message 10759212
I was ready to close the account entirely, but when I heard that Wingspan may be considering switching from M&I to Checkfree, I decided to hang in a while longer. Also, to be fair, Wingspan customer service people have been courteous and have been very good about trying to help. They reimbursed late fees and apologized, etc.

Now they have introduced another cool feature, one that I think may solve the only real inconvenience that still exists with internet banks. That is, the problem of making deposits to your account. I can now "pull" money from my other bank accounts.

Wingspan says they will now debit the bank account of my choice at my direction. I call them on the phone, give them ACH instructions, and the next day (supposedly) the funds are transferred to my Wingspan account. I just called them to give it a try. They say they are in the process of building this capability into their website and will have it working in a couple months.

If this works like it is supposed to, it will eliminate one of the last arguments against internet banking. (The other being lack of ATM's).
