Elmer,
RE:"MIA-thlon introduced in June yet still nowhere to be found...."...
It's pretty clear that the Athlon was announced in June to lessen the blow of the $200M loss announcement concurrently. Well, maybe, AMD forgot about the motherboard, convienently.
Never the less, as I and others stated many moons ago, a lot of things had to come together to launch the K7, motherboard, chipset, chip etc.
I've heard from reliable sources for quite some time now that K7 yields are very good. Past accuracies lead me to believe this is true, thus the motherboard maybe the chipset is now the limiting factor (nice ecological term). A blunder yes, but it should come together between the 9th and 16th of August.
Intel, OTOH, is doing a fine job of circling the wagons for the charge of the K7 brigade, especially since copafeel on .18u is supposedly delayed....but... Nothing has changed, it will come down to a MHZ race...with the Athlon better clock for clock but Intel with the much better hype, advertising and production facilities. To tell you the truth, a loose cannon like Jerry with a big gun like the Athlon could make for a pretty big war.

Jim

Elmer - Re: "Actually you can buy them now as some people have reported they are already on sale in CompUSA and the like. So you can buy Intel systems today that haven't even been announced yet while at the same time you can't but MIA-thlon systems that were introduced in June! "

Sorry for my error.

Thanks for the correction.

The laughALON may be delayed because of the enormous demand for these chips - you know - AMD Pretzel Logic ~!
