re: "We still don't know the terms of Pauls exit from Intel in 1982."

I do...but I do not feel free to divulge what I know in this semi-public forum.

re: "Paul is nervous because the Athlon is a faster, more scalable chip. Any optimisim about Intel keeping the MHz lead is guarded at best. Before, Intel could rely on AMD screwing up while trying to catch up. Now, they have to rely on Intel keeping up while hoping AMD will screw up.."

I believe that all participants at iNTEL, who are actually paying attention, are very justifiably paranoid (not routinely paranoid) over this set of developments. Their only reasonable comfort can be the very reliable historical record (which we should not overlook or minimize) that AMD will screw up royally again. Also, as they have done several times in the past; they may have a surprise to spring on all of us. This time, as before, I do not think so.
