<I continue to be stunned by Intel's filing against VIA in this regulatory environment and more amazed that VIA would treat Intel as a company that it could infuriate and ignore. I've speculated that it's because rambus has failed - and joined this list in the hopes that some of the members of this list, who have been following these companies from an investor's perspective far longer than I have, could either support that guess or provide a better one. >

Dan,

There were several lively discussions about DRDRAM's prospects on this thread. Many of us outside of the "Intel mutual admiration circle" have expressed views very similar to yours. Just check the postings by Scumbria, Kash Johal, KZnerd, Charles R, to name a few. I think that DRDRAM will remain a niche technology for the foreseeable future. Your observation about VIA's "dissing" Intel is an interesting one. Is it DRDRAM, Athlon, Willamette, Merced that makes VIA feel that they can do this with impunity? They must feel that the balance of power in the PC industry is shifting rapidly.

Kap.

Dan 12/4 - Re: "I continue to be stunned by Intel's filing against VIA in this regulatory environment and more amazed that VIA would treat Intel as a company that it could infuriate and ignore. "

Why ?

Trident is ALSO suing VIA - VIA appears to be a company that has weasled on its contractual obligations.

As for Intel, chip Sets, Rambus, SDRAM - expect Intel to deliver the best solution - eventually.

Intel's speed at changing strategic directions is FAST - witness Intel's dominating Celeron and AMD's collapsing Kdawg 6 CPU market share.
