To JohnG: Note: Here I am Cha2, Chaz elsewhere. Am skeptical that JDSU has IPR or other means for domination of the fiber optics components area comparable to the Q's in CDMA wireless. That is why I chose the Q as my one gorilla and JDSU as my one king in my game for this thread.

Note that SDLI is also a fine company in the fiber optics area, and is particularly successful in selling into the submerged marine fiber optics market which is growing very very rapidly. SDLI is much smaller and concentrates on "active" components, while JDSU covers both active and passive components since the merger. JDSU therefore has the potential to produce and sell "modules" which combine active and passive components to buyers such as LU and NT. This may be a major future advantage for JDSU.

But as best I can tell from comparing JDSU and the GG criteria, the company falls short of being a full gorilla and doubt it will qualify unless something fundamental changes.
