Gary, anyone listening to you will be well served, nevertheless, your proclivity towards COMS is obvious and understandable. If I had been let down quarter after quarter I to would have negative feelings.

In the PDA arena COMS is the leader and IMHO I think it will remain a force. There is a caveat, COMS should not make the same mistakes as Apple and it should continue solidifying its alliances. Currently no one is questioning its superior OS and as of yet it has still not lost market share. The Palm VII, with all its deficiencies, has been a great boon for COMS in that it is exposed in almost every magazine and periodical relating to business and technology. This is free advertisement for COMS that would otherwise cost over a $100 million dollars. Don't forget this is just the beginning of things to come, COMS is not sitting back and waiting for everyone to chip away at its lead in the PDA market. COMS currently has MSFT's king pinned and it is going to take them over a year to try to find a way from getting checked. MSFT's actions manifest well the miasma that they have got themselves in, since they are not able to do it with superior technology they are trying to muscle their way into the PDA market.

MSFT tried earnestly to acquire INTU, the maker of Quicken, which already had a substantial market share in the personal finance market. At that time they had their own software which we all know as Money, and they offered it at no cost when you purchased a PC. Their PR and clout was not enough to topple INTU so they finally tried to purchase the company, but to no avail, thanks to the monopolies commission. The result INTU is king of this market, and MSFT like an old soldier has not died, but it has faded away.

I am betting that the same will be true for COMS in the PDA market. My fear is not Windows CE but EPOC. In the PDA market EPOC has actually lost market share, but in the cellular arena it is solid, especially in Europe, thanks to its alliances.

MSFT used to be the darling of everyone, but there is so much bad blood out in the market, they wish they never had. No company wants enemies like, the Federal Gov't, IBM, SUNW, ORCL,AOL/Netscape and a slew of others. Yes this is a different arena and for MSFT to win it is not going to get any freebies like it did when it was the darling of Wall Street. It is no longer an underdog on the side lines, rather it is a voracious predator that is about to be checked in every corner of the forest.

For this reason COMS' alliances also have their own hidden agendas that will support the PALM and its OS just to prevent MSFT from muscling its way into domination.
