Another reason: With the Fake SI you might have a single digit number of new posts which so cleanly is a small target, but with Classic at a minimum you get "(1 new)" which is a 7-character target to hit. Ease of use goes to Classic, and cleanliness goes to Fake. With Hover on you even get the (1 new) to underline when using Classic, whereas with Fake SI you get only the 1 to underline.
