Frank,

<< Crossing the Chasm in paperback. Do you think it is a "must read" for Gorilla Hunters >>

Although Amazon hasn't delivered my copy yet I suspect that the updated version would indeed be a must read. I am really curious to see what how he addresses the IT/IS industry which he identified in "Gorilla Game" as the next hot sector and if you pull an 18 month chart on SDTI (one of his gorilla candidates) you'll see that hasn't yet materialized.

I consider "Inside the Tornado" (95) to be one of the great business books of the nineties and a must read for sales, marketing, and planning types, (particularly those) in the tech industry. I read it before "Crossing the Chasm" (91) and thought it a a bit dated (it was after all 6 years old when I read it and more about the 80's than the 90's). A lot of the material was reused for "Inside the Tornado". I look forward to rereading "Chasm" with the updated examples which may identify some new fields for primate hunting.

<< or were its concepts incorporated into the Gorilla Game? >>

For sure there will be repetition. GM has been evolving the story since 91 when he published "Chasm", through 95 when he published "Tornado" which builds on "Chasm", through 98 when he evolved the story to investing theory. Since the book is only $15 delivered we can deal with a little repetition. <g>

<< what did you think of Mr. Moore in person vs. Mr. Moore in print? >>

As for GM in person - He is as a person as he is when speaking on stage. He is highly articulate in a very natural "guy next door style" with no pretension and he is wired to Silicon Valley & its extensions so it is hard to mention a tech company he is not familiar with. First met him in February 1998 in St. Marteen when he spent 4 days at a worldwide meeting of my company shortly after we retained Chasm Group. I had read "Inside the Tornado" perhaps a year earlier and reread it again on the plane over. He mixed with everybody very casually as part of scopeing out our industry. I heard him speak about 3 months later at CardTech/SecurTech where he was a keynote speaker and he identified well our industries position just across the chasm and described sagely the steps that were necessary (for the industry) to get into the bowling alley, while of course introducing the primate family we have come to know and love. Obviously, GM the person, made a very positive impression on me.

- Eric -

Unq, "Chasm" is a "you really should read this". "Inside the Tornado" is a "must, absolutely must read", imo.
