*OT* Lee- Hi.....Well, the Bravos did nada....I s'pose that all the teams were asking for prospects like Lombard, Chen...and, probably rightly, Atlanta did not want to part with them...the way the economics of baseball are now, guys like A. Jones are a gold mine...the Braves have "only" had to pay him a few hundred thousand a year, and he produces HUGE numbers...he can't leave yet, because he hasn't been in the league long enough...

Essentially, for every prospect they bring up (like A. Jones), the Braves save 3-4$ million a year, because that is the going rate to sign someone (vetern free agent) hitting .280, 35 hr. ,90 rbi season (Equation (approx.) Other player $4,000,000- Jones' salary 500,000= Cost saving 3,500,000)..they got the savings last year too...

Lombard is supposed to be as good as Andrew....

R. Simon has played well, and, to be honest, I don't know how much of an upgrade M. Grace or W. Clark would have been anyway...if G. Williams or Nixon start hitting, there's your leadoff hitter..

I have to admit, the Mets did well (with their trades), but I like the fact that the Braves team has been together for a while...usually those teams do better in the playoffs...Chemistry, familiarity is important....

I hope you are wrong about the "Hampton's effect"...in any event, if those getting in now are a couple months early on a big rally, well, there are worse things <g> I am going to be the contrarian here and say that, much like the January effect, the "Hampton's effect" is going to move up (on the calender) each year....and by late August we will see our rally begin.....

Every knows Aug/Sept are (historical) bad months for the market. Therefore, time for a change...

Lee, OT---------------

Quick note for the Sumitomo problem back then. One of my clients had 900 lots LME copper long against Sumitomo (London Metal Exchange, about 1800 contracts in New York, LME is a dealer market and people bet on credit, not margin). We had a good time to figure out when to square out our positions.
