I expect that Timna will be succesful at 0.13u technology in about 1.5-2 years. But whether Timna makes it or not I still expect the typical PC to come down to 3D integrated either into the North Bridge or NB+3D integrated into the CPU. In either case drdram is a good solution since the 3D will need lots of bandwidth and the low pin count allows several rambus channels.

Embedded 6T sram, embedded dram, and dedicated outside dram are all important for 3D and all are used now. (Not too sure about 1T sram. Did you mean to say 2T?) But the problem is that texture memory is huge. Way too huge for embedded dram and even too huge for non-embedded, dedicated dram in the long run. So sharing the PC main memory for textures seems the only solution ultimately. Of course there may be work station solutions with a different architecture but I'm talking about mainstream PCs.

I think that this 3D arch is a big reason that intel went to big for rambus.
