I agree with all that you have written but
the Japanese government is really in a bind..I dont know of how
much of our paper they own..also I have read that foreigners are not overinvested in our equities and many are afraid to for fear of dollar collapse..except of course for BOE :-)
I wonder if they might buy our bonds if there is further dumping of
our bonds and escalation of the yen..

and about the rule changes?
I still just see more deflationary trends or inflationary ones..
wonder if that will just create a trend for money to move into more
domestic based companies versus the big blue chips?
A recession will cause a new wave of layoffs besides all the global
mergers which kill jobs..
I think Greenspan is really getting boxed in by the market-this might
present a great opportunity for bonds again down the road..
