When the semi/chip sector peaks (possibly by the middle of 2001) most companies would show gains including SVGI/UTEK. The question is if we buy SVGI at $ 13, will it hit $ 39 (then we have 200 % gains) or if we buy UTEK at $ 14, will it hit $ 42 (then we have 200 % gains).
If UTEK and SVGI appreciate to such levels then they become valuable at the present low prices. AMAT, LRCX etc. they have all trebled from last year lows, since they have started making good profits. I am going to hold on to SVGI and UTEK till the middle of 2000. If they still remain duds, I'll sell them off. Right now SVGI, UTEK are the laggards in my portfolio. Between now and then we have four quarters of earnings declaration for SVGI, UTEK to prove themselves in the market, that has started its upward movement.

Silicon Valley Group named in antitrust suit
SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug 3 (Reuters) - C&D Semiconductor Services Inc. said on Tuesday that it had filed an antitrust lawsuit against Silicon Valley Group Inc. (Nasdaq:SVGI - news) claiming $20 million in damages.

Filed in the Federal District Court of San Jose, Calif., the suit alleges that Silicon Valley Group engaged in ''unfair'' business practices, breached non-disclosure agreements and was attempting to create a monopoly.

[In my dreams. I thought that the company had to register at least one sale before it could have a monopoly!!! ;^)]

The action was a counter suit to a complaint filed last month by Silicon Valley alleging copyright infringement by C&D, the company said.

''SVG's complaint is an abuse of the legal process and an overt attempt by SVG to illegally increase market share and influence C&D customers through litigation,'' C&D President Dong Nguyen said in a statement.

Silicon Valley Group officials were not immediately available for comment.

The spat stemmed from C&D's business of refurbishing and selling older models of Silicon Valley Group's semiconductor making equipment, C&D said.

C&D also said Silicon Valley Group used information it gained under a non-disclosure agreement the two sides struck while discussing a possible merger in March to aid its quest to build a monopoly.

In the complaint filed in July, the Silicon Valley Group said C&D and several other companies infringed its copyrights by duplicating or modifying software during the refurbishment of used equipment.

The complaint asked for a permanent injunction against the companies barring them from selling refurbished equipment in the future. It also sought damages in an amount to be proved at trial.
