My first "from scratch," wound up being just that: It had to be scratched. I wound up building a Viking Adventurer xmtr (50 watts on the final amplifier plate [that's right... vacuum tube plate] stage), and the obligatory dipole at first, too.

My neighbors in Bensonhurst loved me for all this, I can assure you... I had to wait for the Honeymooners to be over before they would let me go on the air. I rectified that problem with a handful of RCL type TVI filters I picked up at Radio Row on Cortlandt Street in NY City. Radio Row was subsequently torn down to make way for the World Trade Center. I tell you, the value systems that some people have. There is no justice...
