[Advanced Radio Telecom Receives Licenses To Build Broadband Wireless Network in Finland] --ART Nordic AB Takes Region Lead in Rolling Out Carrier-class Broadband Networks to Deliver High-speed Internet Services-- BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 2, 1999-- Advanced Radio Telecom Corp., a broadband wireless Internet access provider, today announced that it has received spectrum licenses for two consecutive channels in each of the 26GHz and the 38GHz bands from Finnish regulator Telehallintokeskus, giving ART nearly 450MHz of spectrum in Finland's top markets. The licenses allow ART to build a broadband wireless network that will enable high-speed data access for businesses in Helsinki, Vantaa, Espoo, Tampere, Turku and Oulu. ART began the rollout of its Nordic network with a pilot point-to-multipoint network in Oslo, Norway, offering high-speed Internet access. The network uses ART Nordic AB's 26GHz nationwide commercial spectrum license to connect users via an IP/ATM, point-to-multipoint broadband wireless system supplied by Lucent Technologies. ''We are pleased to receive the Finnish licenses which support ART's Nordic network plan,'' said Henry C. ''Harry'' Hirsch, ART chairman and CEO. ''Finland is one of the most advanced communications markets in the world, and a very fertile market for high speed data services where it has set the pace for many European telecommunications markets.'' Trond Johannessen, ART vice president, international business development, added, ''ART's international market selection strategy has been carefully designed to serve the exacting demands of sophisticated business customers. We believe that Finnish communications customers are more likely to buy Internet access than most any other business customer in the world.''
