My god, Neocon...you have about the most eloquent bad taste I've ever encountered. If you can paint Phantom Menace as a masterwork of character depth, and this as, well, "Let's make a really bad film, with no script, terrible acting, and grossly amateurish camera work, and pass it off as a true ghost story!!! "... Um, don't you think that if you left at "about the first disappearance", you can't really say this is the worst film you've ever seen, now, can you? That said, Blair Witch isn't for everyone. But damn, I loved it.

Ah, here lies one of the beauties of Blair Witch, in that two people can watch it and see two different movies. I really believe that 90% of the Blair Witch is in the viewer's mind and not what is on screen. I'm a card carrying cynic, born of 25 years in the military, but the basic story line of BW is so deeply ingrained in my psyche through the mythos of both my Celtic lineage and my Cherokee/Creek heritage that I felt as if I knew the story from infancy. Both the Irish of my father's family and my mother's Creek uncles and aunts filled me full of stories of the "lady of the woods" that lured unsuspecting innocents away to their gruesome and sanguinary ends deep in the woods, without leaving a trace. Those stories, told to me by a Creek shaman, were the basis for most of my bad dreams as a young child. Because of that, I could easily accept the premise of the movie and get caught up in what the producers and actors were trying to do. It's a shame you walked out before the end. I believe the last sixty seconds of Blair Witch may well count as this generation's shower scene from Psycho. Not that it was gory or anything. It's just what's going to come to mind when people start getting that chill down the back of their neck and wondering what's behind that door.
