trying to value cmgi's holdings. maybe we can collect the latest information on its publicly traded companies and their stake in it.

has anyone a clue what happened to their yahoo stake they received for geocities? nothing to find on their website except the geocities name w/o a link.

16% chemdex: 152 mio. $
6% critical path: 76 mio. $
17% lycos: 613 mio. $
24% silknet: 116 mio. $

83% engage: 1338 mio. $
------------------------------
2295 mio. $

additionally cmgi should roughly own 3% of yahoo (~800 mio. $) and then add the 2.3 billion AV acquisition.

market cap of cmgi: ~ 11000 mio. $ (after AV dilution)
value of publicly traded companies (incl. AV): 5400 mio. $

now this seems reasonable with some IPOs to come and assuming a value of > 3000 mio. $ for the AV stake. icast should also receive a huge valuation far beyond 2000 mio. $.

not publicly traded companies to ipo soon:
blaxxun (59%) -> stake should be worth more than 300 mio. $
navisite (>50%) -> stake should be worth more than 500 mio. $.

now add a virtual value of more than 1000 mio. $ for its more than 20 holdings not mentioned above, we get a fair conservative value of:

publicly traded: 2300 mio. $
AltaVista after IPO: 3000 mio. $
Yahoo (?): 800 mio. $
Blaxxun & Navisite: 800 mio. $
Additional holdings: 1000 mio. $
------------------------------------
Overall 7900 mio. $

Now that's a premium of approx 35% for the price of CMGI assuming conservative calculations. The keiretsu effect should at least account for a small premium. Add the 2000 mio. $ estimated value for ICast and we get a premium of 10%.

Seems we (CMGI) got ahead of of the reasonable valuation but now got a lot of upside potential due to the outstanding management skills and surely a lot of surprises in the pipeline.

Now I'd like to get your opinions with (additional) input and corrections to my assumptions/statements made here.

Regards
sunny
