--Aug. 2, 1999--Career Education Corporation (NASDAQ:CECO)
today reported record second quarter 1999 net revenues, net income and enrollments.
The Company's second quarter net revenues were $48.8 million, up
51 percent from $32.3 million for the same period last year. Second
quarter 1999 net income was $744,000 or $0.09 per share fully diluted
compared to net income of $227,000 or $0.03 per share fully diluted in
second quarter 1998.
For the six-month period ended June 30, 1999, net revenues were
$94.2 million, up 45 percent from $64.9 million for the same period
last year. Net income for the first half of 1999 was $2.3 million or
$0.29 per share fully diluted compared to a pro forma net income of
$631,000 or $0.10 per share fully diluted for the first half of 1998.
Pro forma net income for 1998 excludes the non-recurring, net-of-tax
$1.1 million non-cash compensation expense and $205,000 change in
accounting principle.
Second quarter 1999 new student enrollment (starting class) rose
18 percent to 3,347 students, up from 2,833 for the same period last

NEW YORK, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- CBS Corporation (NYSE:CBS) today
reported record operating results for the second quarter of 1999.

Results for the Second Quarter of 1999

Net revenues for the second quarter were $1,678 million, as compared to $1,484 million for the second quarter of 1998, an increase of approximately 13%. The increase was due to revenue growth at the Company's television segment, at its out-of-home media subsidiary, Infinity Broadcasting Corporation (NYSE:INF), and at its cable segment, which had strong sales growth at its country lifestyle cable channels.
