<Mahler and Bruckner are too modern>Hi Karen! I thought you enjoyed the romantic period. Bruckner was a contemporary of Wagner, died around 1881. This music was at the high point of the romantic period.
All of us 9 symphonies were among the most melodic and consonnant ever. Have you heard his "Romantic", I believe # 4,possibly 2.

If you like tone-poems you would find a number of Strauss's extraordinary, espically his "Four Last Songs"- some of the most beautiful music I ever heard! I highly recommend his cd by the Cleveland, with Sczell, titled "Four Last Songs"- about 13 lieder,
Scwartzkapf, the best mezzo of this century. This cd earned a rosette, and is possibly the best cd of beautiful music ever recorded!

Get it and you will have hours of absolutely tearfully exceptionally beauftiful music forever!

I also highly recommend Mahler's 10th (completed after he died) for some of the most spectacularly beautiful music you can imagine!
